Stolen Glances - piano four hands
Stolen Glances explores the very early stages of having a crush on someone. In these moments, feelings often swing unpredictably between negative emotions like anxiety and sadness and positive ones like excitement and hope. The music mirrors this emotional ebb and flow, moving between contrasting states to paint a portrait of early love. It begins uncertain and tentative, builds through a tense middle section, and culminates in an elated finale. At the heart of the piece is a six-note motif, introduced right at the start. This motif symbolizes the potential for a deeper connection, with all its highs and lows. Throughout the work, the two pianists attempt to play the motif together but without success, until the final section when they perform it together in octave unison, representing a realized hope and the start of something new.
